Residential School Syndrome
or Historic Trauma:
Finding what works

"This three hour workshop was presented to the national conference of the Native Mental Health Association held in Ottawa, ON, in October 2005and then, with updates, was presented to the international indigenous conference Healing Our Spirits Worldwide in August, 2006. It features an examination of two conceptualizations of this uniquely aboriginal experience: as a syndrome specific to the residential school experience and as a symptomentology associated with the broader process of colonization. Evidence for each conceptualiztion is discussed along with implications for treatment. Case vignettes from Lloyd's own practice are included." A two day healing workshop that uses this original material and includes additional therapeutic group work has been used with residential school survivors.
